Open sesame - was a glass focused exhibition from second year students from studio Do-Make under the guidance of tutor and glass artist Marc Barreda.
Projects were developed over a period of three months that consisted of theoretical lessons, conceptualization and technical planning at the Academy, and most artworks were later brought to life in a two week immersive experience in Marc's studio in Amsterdam, in which we had the opportunity to observe and practice the art of glass. Along with learning to blow, cast, fuse, stretch and slump, we camped cooked, learned about mold making and each other. As long days and long nights started and ended, a mantra emerged - Hey Siri, open sesame, Marc's way of opening the gate to his studio, usually to arriving and departing sweaty faced-classmate, draped in blankets, bags and tent poles, or the cooking team on duty hiking to the local AH for food and beer.
Over the last week, hot glass projects were carefully completed with Marc, his intern Josha and one student at a time until it was time to pack-up and catch the last train back to Eindhoven, and a last-Hey Siri, open sesame!
I made three domes. A force that push the glass as liquid to one side. The game 123 piano transformed in a snapshot, a snapshot of my experience at the glass workshop. One dome for the beginning, one of the present and one of the future. A future untouched but still connected, with glass.
